Road Closures - the Struggle of Getting to our Destination

I waged a battle to get home today. There’s construction on the road in front of my Hand on steering wheel of car demonstrating the frustration of being stuck in a road closurehouse. I’d finished work and was headed home through crawling traffic when I came across the dreaded sign that says Road Closed. In order to get home, I had to convince two police officers that I lived on my street, traverse chopped up asphalt with protruding manhole covers that were high enough to carve a groove in the undercarriage of my car, weave through orange cones, construction vehicles, and workers, and play chicken with another car blazing down the single lane directly in front of me. I’m not certain if I should be proud of the fact that the other driver backed down first.Sometimes life is a construction zone, with bumps, road closures, and obstacles everywhere. We struggle to press forward, to keep our eyes on our purpose or goal. Some days we’re stuck in idle or crawling along with our speedometer barely above zero. Other days we zooming at hundred miles an hour praying we don’t crash. When I turned into the construction zone, I knew I had to get to my destination. My kids’ bus would be arriving soon to drop them off. I knew where I needed to be and nothing would stop me, not even a road closure.Jesus said, “In this life, we will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world,” (John 16:33). He didn’t say life would be a breeze, all fun and games, kicks and giggles. He said we will have trouble, but we can rest in His assurance that He has overcome the world. The earth is His footstool. On those tough days, I remember that this is not our home. We are strangers in a strange land. We are meant for Heaven. If we just keep our eyes on our destination and keep pressing forward, nothing can stop us from getting home.“…On this rock, I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it.” Matthew 16:18 Don’t miss a post.
